Frederik Magle (born in 1977) is a Danish compositor. He started to compose when he was only 5 years old, and his first public performance was at the age of 8. Frederik Magle, in addition of being a brilliant compositor, is also a soloist on piano and pipe organ. His music is classical contemporary, but he also mixes it with other genres, like jazz, rock, ethnic and electronica. As a soloist, he has played in Saint Peter's Basilica of Rome, in the Windsor Castle... and in 1999 in the baptism of Prince Nikolai, and after that he was invited to perform an organ concert for the Danish Royal Family at Fredensborg Castle. He has an endless list of remarkable performances. His music has been performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and many more important orchestras all over the world. He has received many prizes and awards, recognizing the greatness of his work. Between them, there are the Grants of Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark and H.R.H. Prince Henrik, The Grant of H.H. Prince Joachim and H.H. Princess Alexandra, and The Arts Award of the Freemasons (2001). In his website you can listen to some of his pieces, available as music downloads. He also has a forum, a list of concerts, photos of him, and lists of edited CDs. He keeps a close contact with his admirers, which shows not only talent but also generosity, sensibility, to be a great person. Between the musics that you can download in his website, you can find "Souffle le vent", which is the first movement of the symphonic poem "Cantabile". This poem was played in 2004 by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, in celebration of the Prince Consort's 70th birthday. It's an exceptional piece. It has the strength of the greatest classical European symphonies. It is full of passion, with powerful chorus that evoke a tragic love. "The Hope" is magnificent, of an heroic nature. It is based in a Danish hero called Olfert Fischer. It has many changes: it's melancholic, triumphant, with great doses of suspense. "Lullaby" is a romantic piece, full of feeling and warmth. Frederik Magle in person is the performer of this score. I think that there's some influence of Debussy: natural, fresh, but also mysterious. "Journey in Time" is a violin and piano performance, with very intense rhythms, very virtuous, and charming. It's like a voyage through the different styles of piano and violin, each one competing to show their beauty. "Cantilena" is performed by Magle as pipe organ soloist. It has some sort of Medieval atmosphere, and some Irish influence, and is very dreamy. Frederik Magle, a brilliant compositor that must be a essential listening for all those who love music.

Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin was born in 1869 in Pokrovskoye (Russia). Many kings, tsars and emperors have had the advice of a wise man, or a wizard, but it could be said that Rasputin is the last known sorcerer that a tsar had. Rasputin grew up in the beautiful fields of Siberia without any kind of studies or education, and survived stealing cattle. He had two brothers that died drowned. He named his children with the same names as his brothers. When he was eighteen, he was punished and sent to Verkhoturye Monastery. After three months in this monastery, he had a vision of the Virgin Mary, and this started his life as a mystic. Short time after this, he joined a sect called the Khlysts, that used to make many parties and orgies. Rasputin had to abandon this sect for being a conspirator. He met a holy man called Makariy, that influenced him very much. Some time after this, Rasputin married Praskovia Fyodorovna Dubrovina, and had three children with her. As he was a very promiscuous man, it is known that he had many illegitimate children. He abandoned his family for mystical reasons, and went on a pilgrimage through Greece and Jerusalem. All this time, he lived among peasants, serving them to heal their diseases and predicting their future. He increased very much his esoteric knowledge and what he knew about natural medicine. In 1903, he went back to Russia. Everybody in Saint Petersburg talked about that famous clairvoyant called Rasputin, that had magical powers. His popularity reached the ears of the Royal Family. In 1908, the wife of the Tsar Alexandra Fyodorovna called him, hoping that Rasputin could save the heir Alexei Nikolaevich, who suffered from hemophilia. Through hypnosis, he managed to calm the illness of the heir, and that made Rasputin appear as the savior of the Royal Family. Thus, he became a central piece of the palace. Soon, Rasputin acquired a great power and the Russian government was in his hands. Some people called him "The Mad Witch". It was also said that a big part of the women of the Russian Court had laid in his bed. It was the World War I, and Russia entered in it. Rasputin was so powerful, and the Russian people felt betrayed by the Tsars, that some movements of opposition started to generate. The Romanov dynasty began to be very unpopular, and the Romanov found Rasputin was the cause of this. Worrying about all this, they prepared the assassination of Rasputin. The prince Felix Yusupov was the leader of the plot. It was said that he was gay and felt attraction for Rasputin, but he rejected him, and he felt very offended for this. They invited Rasputin to the Palace, for healing a niece of the Tsar that was ill. One of the weaknesses of Rasputin was eating, and they put cyanide in his dinner. Rasputin suspected because nobody seemed to want to start dinning, so he said that he won't had a bite until they give him a cup of wine from Krimea and Madeira. The cyanide seemed to make no effect on him, although he gave him enough to kill 5 men. So seeing that he didn't died, Yusupov felt anxious and shot him. When he approached to see if he was dead, Raputin tried to strangle him. So Yusupov's men shot Rasputin in the back 3 times. But Rasputin was still alive, so they threw him to the river waters. The postmortem examination revealed that he drowned. When they found the corpse, they took his heart out, and cut his virile member, that nowadays is exhibited in the erotic museum of Saint Petersburg (Russia). The last predictions of Rasputin were that the end of the Romanov Family will come. It was a true prediction, as short time after his death, the Russian Revolution started, and Lenin reached the power, and put an end to the Romanov dynasty. Rasputin was a man that has a passionate life, was born without the most essential, and ended having the power of his country in his hands. Even nowadays, he is still an enigmatic figure that everybody talks about.

In its origins, the Unicorn was a creature depicted as a white horse, with antelope hooves, billy-goat beard, and a horn in its forehead. But with the pass of time, fantasy artists have depicted the Unicorn as a horse with a horn in its forehead and lacking of the other elements. Some also depict the Unicorn winged. There are ancient Greek, Roman, and Macedonian stories that tell about a creature with a single horn. Some say that the origin of those stories may lay in the travels that they did into the India, and they are describing the Indian rhinoceros. Other origins of the Unicorn can be found in the viking mythology and tell about a sea creature that has a horn in its forehead and probably it's actually a cetacean called narval. But both the narval and the rhinoceros are very different from a horse with a horn in its forehead. One of the first versions about the Unicorn is the one that the Greek physician Ctesias did in 400 B.C., in one of the expeditions to India. He talks about a white animal with the body of a horse... He also talks about its distrustful and lonely nature. Then, the belief in the protective power of the Unicorn's horn against poison and diseases is born. And it becomes a synonym of a long life. There's another reference to the Unicorn in the Greek mythology. It is said that Zeus was fed by a goat called Amalthea. In some stories, that animal that feeds Zeus is not a goat but an Unicorn. The legend says that one day, Zeus broke the horn of Amalthea and a big amount of food emerged from that horn, that was called The Horn Of Abundance. Zeus rewarded Amalthea turning it into the star Capella. Aristotle wrote about the Unicorn, and also Julius Caesar in "Bellum Gallicum" (50 BC). In the Middle Ages, the Unicorns are the symbol of purity, and in some religious artworks they are linked to Christianity. It was said that only the young female virgins can approach an Unicorn. So in the Middle Ages, the headhunters used virgins to try catch an Unicorn, and get its valuable horn. The belief in the Unicorn was also present in Asia. In Japan, it was called Kirin, and symbolizes the Justice. In Persia it was called Shadhavar, and the Unicorn is similar to a gazelle with a single horn. The horn has holes, and when the wind blows, it sounds like a flute. Animals and humans are attracted by its music, and when they are near, the Shadhavar attacks them. This is the reason why this mythical animal is symbol of temptation and danger, in Persia. In China, the Unicorn (Qilin) is symbol of wisdom, and is classified like the king of all animals. There's a legend in China that says that a king was sat close to a river, and an Unicorn appeared. It had magic symbols in the back, and they helped the king to create the first Chinese writings. Some adventurers that in the XVIII century traveled to Tibet, said that the fabulous creatures called Unicorns really existed in that place. In all these stories and legends there's something in common: the spirit of a mythical animal of exceptional beauty, purity, and nobleness.

The Catwoman character started as a thieve and enemy of Batman in DC Comics. Her real name is Selina Kyle, and her first appearance was in Batman nº1 in 1940. Her creators are Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The personality of Catwoman is ambiguous and has her own code of honor. She never takes part in a murder, for example. As time passes, Batman and Catwoman will felt a big attraction for each other. Even more, their alter egos Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne (Batman) also went on a date. In Batman nº62 ("The Secret Life Of Catwoman"), Catwoman suffers a blow in the head while Batman is chasing her, so Batman takes her to the Batcave. There, Selina tells him her origin. She worked as a flight attendant, and one day the plane in which she worked crashed. She survived, but her personality was altered, and she became a thieve. The blow in the head made her recover her memories, and she reformed and opened a pet shop in Gotham, getting away from the crime world. But in Detective Comics 203 (year 1954), Edmund Hamilton and Sheldon Morloff made Catwoman go back to her criminal origins. In one of the later comics ("The Brave And The Bold nº197") Catwoman married Batman and they had a daughter called Helena. She became The Huntress in Earth-Two after the death of her parents. There's another version on Catwoman's origin, in which Selina Kyle is born in a problematic family, with an alcoholic father. Her mother was a cat lover obsessed with a life of luxury and wealth that she will never have. The mother died while Selina was a child. Her father also died years later, so both Selina and her sister Megan had to live in a orphanage. Then, Selina escaped from the orphanage and her only way to survive in the streets was doing small robberies and prostituting herself. Surrounded by miseries, she began to felt the desire for wealth that consumed her mother, and she turned into a skilled thieve: Catwoman. Her dexterity as a fighter was trained by her master Ted Grant (known as Wildcat). The appeal of Catwoman's character made her appear in many movies, animated series on TV, etc. Without doubt, Catwoman is a controversial character full of mystery and beauty.

You often prefer to download them to read later. This extension will ask you to open or download them every time you click a pdf link. Scrapbook, Downloads a website to the hard drive. Download Statusbar, A must have for Firefox. Replaces the dull download manager of Firefox with a progress bar that manages the downloads much better. Download Sort, With this extension you can specify in what folder you'll download what file type. For example, download jpgs to a folder in MyImages. Or you can also use it to download the files of a specific website to a folder. Search Google Icon, Displays the favicon in Google search pages, so it makes easier to distinguish the sites. Resurrect Pages, When you go to website that is offline or disappeared time ago, this extension may help you to see a cached version of it in different servers. GooglePreview, Shows a screenshot thumbnail of the sites that are listed in Google searches. But be careful, it uses more system resources. Google Advanced Operations Toolbar, A toolbar with advanced Google search options, so you save time. Googlepedia, Displays the Wikipedia page related to what you are searching in Google on the right. GoogleHotkeys, Control the navigation through Google's search pages with the keyboard, and also get a preview. Some people will find it faster. Bookmark Synchronization Chipmarks, An extension to share bookmarks that can have public folders and you can also share your bookmarks with your buddies. Google Browser Sync, The Google solution to synchronize bookmarks between your computers. It can also (or not) synchronizes cookies and other things like History. Very easy to use and safe, as bookmarks are encrypted and not even Google reads them. Paulo Coelho was born in Rio de Janeiro in Agust 1947. His family was rather strict y disciplined. And he was quite rebel, so they interned him up to three times in a mental institution before he was 17 for trying to "moderate" his personality. But his free spirit prevented him from following the same path that others had decided for him. He started to study law, but he abandoned in the 60s, influenced by the hippie culture. He went to travel all over the world, through America, Europe, and Africa. He was traveling for two years, and when he returned, he started to write song lyrics. He also worked as journalist, scriptwriter, theater director, executive in the music company Polygram, and directed the Express Underground newspaper. In 1974 he was sent to jail, accused of subversive activities against the Brazilian government. He got married with the painter Christina Oiticica. With her, he traveled to Holland and met a man called Jean that introduced Coelho to the RAM (Regnus Agnus Mundi) fraternity. It is a religious catholic group that has its origins in the Medieval Spain. Jean became Coelho's spiritual guide. Coelho was appointed knight of the RAM order. He wrote "The Pilgrimage", inspired in his religious experiences with the RAM, after his pilgrimage through the Road of Santiago. After this book, he wrote "The Alchemist" (1988), "Brida" (1990), "The Valkyries"... and so many books that made him be recognized universally as a well-known writer. "The Alchemist" was named book of the year by the Library Association of USA. In Paris he was given the Legion d'Honneur decoration, one of the highest of France. He serves as Special Counsellor for Intercultural Dialogues and Spiritual Convergences for the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). And is also member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters. In addition, he has an endless list of awards and decorations, but without a doubt, his best award are his readers and his thousands of followers all over the world. Odilon Redon (1840-1916) was born in Bordeaux (France). Actually, his name is Bertrand-Jean Redon. Odilon is a nickname derived from the name of his mother who was Odile. His father was an adventurer that had made a fortune. When Odilon was a child, he had many health problems so they send him to live in the house of his uncle, in the country. Redon was always a dreamer and introverted being. Since he was very young, he felt a great interest for art, which allowed him to express his inner life. The dream of his father was that Redon become an architect, but that never happened. Although sculpture was one of his first passions, he felt very early on a closeness to painting. One of the artist that did a greater influence over him was the watercolor painter Stanislas Gorin, that was his master. Redon admired Delacroix, Millet, Corot, and the symbolist Gustave Moreau. They all influenced his art. One of the best friends of Odilon was the biologist Armand Clavaud, who transmitted him the interest for writers like Flaubert, Baudelaire, and Poe. Clavaud was fascinated by the microscopic beings and the frontiers between the animal and vegetable world. This was reflected in the artworks of Redon, where he sometimes paints hybrid characters, and strange creatures that emerged from his imagination and the long conversations with his friend. Redon was a free, inspirational painter. The inflexibility of Paris' School of Fine Arts was a hell for him. Another big influence for Redon was the drawer and etcher Rodolphe Bresdin. Bresdin was an imaginative artist that captivated Redon. The paintings of Redon had several stages: from the lithographies and the drawings with pen and carbons to the colorful watercolors. The darker stage of Roden was in a bad moment of his life, when his sister died and as well as his first son (before reaching one year old). The birth of his second son was an optimistic and colorful stage. After that, came the flower paintings, and the symbolists, the mythological, and religious stages. His artworks were always in perpetual change. His art is deeply inspired, and his paintings are surrounded by an halo of transcendence and depth. Mount Everest is located in the Asian Himalaya range. Himalaya means in Sanskrit "abode of the snow". The Himalayas are the highest range in the Earth, being the Everest the highest mountain in the planet. Mount Everest separates Nepal from Tibet, and is also called "the top of the world". Mount Everest is called Sagarmatha in Nepal (which means "Goddess of the sky"), and in China it's known as Chomolungma o Qomolangma Feng ("the mother of Universe"). This mountain was called Everest in honor of Sir George Everest (a British surveyor-general of India) in the year 1865. They were the British who sought for the highest mountain in the Earth, and that took them to the Himalayas. When they found that mountain, the Everest, always covered by the clouds because of its altitude, they knew they had found it. They did many measurements, and each time the mountain seemed to be more and more high. The first British expedition to Mount Everest was in 1921 (from June to September). The second one was in 1922 and took from April to June. In 1924 there was another expedition in which 2 of its members disappeared: Andrew Irvine and George Mallory. In 1953, Edmund Percival Hillary (who has died recently) from New Zealand, and the Sherpa Tenzing Norgay reached the summit, which is 8,850 m high (29,035 feet). It was 29 May of 1953. Edmund had already taken part in a previous expedition. He was a great adventurer (he also reached the South Pole). And he spent a big part of his life helping the Sherpa people from Nepal. Edmund created a foundation that built hospitals and schools in the most remote places of the Himalayas. Edmund lost his first wife and his daughter in an airplane accident in Nepal. He married again, and his son Peter Hillary followed his steps, reaching the summit of the Everest two times. In the commemoration of the 50 anniversary of the first ascent to the Everest, the government named Edmund Hillary as honor citizen. This way, he became the fist foreigner that has received this award in Nepal. The Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, who reached the summit with Hillary, had taken part of other expeditions to Mount Everest before that. But with Edmund he reached the success. In 1974, Tenzing Norgay founded a business to offer his services to all the mountaineers and climbers that dream with reaching the summit of Mount Everest. One of Norgay's sons also followed his steps and climbed the Everest in 1996: Jamling Tenzing Norgay. As a curiosity, Tenzing Norgay has a monument to him, that represents the moment in which he reached the summit. After that moment of reaching the Everest's summit for first time, there have been many more who got it. One of them is when the Japanese Junko Tabei climbed the Everest in 1975, being the first woman in doing that. And in 1978, some explorers tried the first ascent without oxygen cylinders. In fact, the extreme conditions combined with the so high altitude make climbing very hard. The reason is that, the higher people ascend, the lesser the abundance of oxygen. So it requires a time of adaptation and a training, or using oxygen cylinders to add oxygen to blood in an artificial way. A curiosity: when Hillary and Norgay where in a critical moment of their ascent, they found some oxygen cylinders belonging to a previous expedition. After all these first pioneers, many people see Mount Everest like a goal to reach, and there have been are many expeditions, routes created... It is the summit which is in the dreams of many mountaineers: the highest summit, to be at the top of the world.

In this second movie, John Carpenter and Debra Hill are still the scriptwriters, but was directed by Rosenthal. As a curiosity, the soundtrack of the movie was composed by Carpenter himself. Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) is in the hospital. Although supposedly Myers is dead, it's not true. He has killed again. And goes to the hospital to kill Laurie. Laurie knows it, feels it. Can she scape again this time? Halloween III, the season of the witch Year 1982. Directed by Tommy Lee Wallance. It was produced by Carpenter and Hill. Some strange masks destroy all those who wears them. The aim of these masks is to kill the American children who will wear them in a specific day. Halloween IV, the return of Michael Myers Year 1988. Directed by Dwight H. Little. Michael Myers has been in coma for 10 years. He awakes when he ears that he has a niece called Jamie Lloyd. Myers escapes from the sanitarium. In his search, he kills everyone that he meets. The movie has a surprising end, because maybe Jaimie may have "inherited" the personality of Myers. Halloween V, the revenge of Michael Myers Year 1989. Directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard. The niece of Michael Myers is in the sanitarium, treated by Doctor Loomis, the same that treated Michael Myers. The nightmares of the child have increased. It seems that there's a mental connection between Jamie and Michael. Halloween VI, the curse of Michael Myers Year 1995. Directed by Joe Chapelle. The niece of Myers, Jamie, has grown up. Jamie has been all this time kidnapped by some strange men wearing in black, but she manages to scape. With her, he carries a baby. He is the son of hers and Michael Myers. Halloween H20, 20 years later Year 1998. Directed by Steve Miner. Probably, it's one of the best films of the saga. The sister of Jason is in fact alive, and had simulated her own death to confuse her brother. Now she lives with a new identity, directs a school, and has a son. She never managed to overcome her trauma. But when Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) wants to start a new life and defeat her fears, Myers appears again. Now she knows that there's no sense in running. She has to face him. As a curiosity, the mother of Jamie Lee Curtis (Janet Leigh) has a short play in the film.
